Stitch one of Canada’s most iconic images: the legendary Bluenose schooner as featured on the celebrated 1929 Canadian stamp (Scott #158) often called “Canada’s Finest.”

Inspired by the dramatic engraved linework and maritime atmosphere of the original stamp, this original cross stitch design recreates the Bluenose in graduated blue tones using carefully placed directional stitching, detailed backstitch, and traditional counted cross stitch techniques. The finished piece captures the depth and character of classic Canadian stamp engraving while offering an engaging and rewarding stitching experience.

The Bluenose itself became a Canadian legend long before appearing on the stamp. Designed by Halifax naval architect William Roué, the schooner dominated international racing throughout the 1920s and 1930s while also serving as a hardworking fishing vessel on the Atlantic coast. In 1937, the ship was immortalized on the Canadian dime, where it remains today as an enduring symbol of Canada’s maritime heritage.
